Bank Installing First Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations Downtown

Electric Vehicle Charging Stations are coming to downtown!March 6, 2023

Washington, MO – Bank of Washington recently announced that it will be installing the community’s first public electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in downtown Washington.

“This is exciting for our community,” stated Bank of Washington President Louis B. “Buzz” Eckelkamp, III. “Since 1877, we have been devoted to downtown Washington. Providing EV charging stations to our community is a great way to help promote visitors to our downtown. Owners of EVs can plug in their cars, visit local restaurants and retail stores and stay longer while their vehicle charges.”

The Bank will be installing a two vehicle, Level 2, EV ChargePoint charging station in the northwest corner of its employee parking lot at Second and Oak streets. The station will have connections for two EVs cars to charge simultaneously. ChargePoint EV charging stations are designed with cutting-edge technology to be safe and reliable, while offering drivers a user-friendly, premium charging experience. Drivers will pay for their charge through an app or by simply paying at the charger with a card.

“Drivers of EVs use apps like the ChargePoint app to find EV charging stations, see if they’re available to start charging, and receive notifications when their car has finished charging,” stated Eckelkamp. “By installing the station, Washington will now be on the map for EV drivers. We are hopeful that the station will also bring visitors in from out of town to our area to shop, dine, and to stay for a while.”

The Bank hopes the charging station will be up and running in April. The charging spots will be striped and marked for EVs within the next few weeks.
