Mastercard® Liability

Zero Liability Protection

Limitation of Liability of Cardholders for Unauthorized Use

With Mastercard’s® Zero Liability policy, you won’t be liable for promptly-reported, unauthorized purchases or ATM transactions. You can have peace of mind knowing that the Bank of Washington won't hold you responsible for "unauthorized transactions." As a Mastercard® cardholder, zero liability applies to your purchases made in the store, over the telephone, online, or via a mobile device. As a cardholder, you will not be held responsible for unauthorized transactions if:

  1. you have used reasonable care in protecting your card from loss or theft; and
  2. you have promptly reported within 2 business days to the Bank of Washington when you knew that your Bank of Washington debit Mastercard® was lost or stolen.

If you believe there has been unauthorized use on your account and you meet the conditions above, rest easy knowing you have the protection of Mastercard’s® zero liability promise. Additionally, within 10 business days, the Bank of Washington will provide a provisional credit to your account. For additional protections with respect to unauthorized transactions, please contact us.

Zero Liability does not apply to the following Mastercard® payment cards: Commercial cards and gift cards.
